Going for a year backpacking in australia!Any Tips?

Backpacking in Australia?
I would like to plan a back acking trip around Australia, only for say 3 months, or until my money runs out Just wondering where everyone seems to get all their information, I need to know everything lolHow do you decide where to start, how do you travel around, did you book the trips before or just hop on a bus train and carry on. Are the tickets open ended or do i have to stick to a schedule, where to stay ect ect ect...theres so much and although ive done a bit of a google search its not helping much Also wondering if anyone else has done it alone and how easy it is to meet people whilst out there or is it better to use a site such as travelbuddy. Im really just in planning stages but any advice given is great Thanks
What is best to ride when backpacking in Australia: buy a Car/ rent a wiked van/ or rent a campervan.?
the main issue is what to choose when i go for 3 mounths in australia? to buy a car around 2000$ i guess you can correct me. then sell it in the end rent a wicked van which is a van with a possiblity to sleep in or rent a campervan which is like an RV, with more room then the van and has a fridge, and a little kitchen . or maybe another possiblity i'm not considering like buying a campervan .helpthanxOri.
